1. Definitions
Images from the Edge is the trading name of Niall Benvie, 24 Park Road, Brechin, Angus DD9 7AP. The client is the person who books and/or attends the course.
A booking is made once a deposit (or full amount if there are fewer than six weeks until the workshop) is paid and you have received written confirmation of your place from Images from the Edge.
The standard band includes tuition, accommodation and meals organised by Images from the Edge, but not drinks or additional hotel services.
The economy band includes tuition and tea and coffee only.
A studio workshop is conducted mainly indoors (for example, the digital workflow workshop).
A field workshop is conducted mainly outdoors (for example flower photography).
Standard and budget pricing applies to both studio and field workshops.
Course and workshops are used inter-changeably and both imply the provision of tuition by Images from the Edge.
Accommodation provider refers to the hotel or guesthouse where clients are housed during the workshop
  2. Making your booking
Six weeks or more before a workshop, a deposit of £50 reserves your place on a standard band workshop, £20 on an economy band one. (The full amount payable must accompany reservations made six weeks or less before the workshop is due to run.)
The outstanding balance is due no later than six weeks (the exact date will be given in our letter confirming your booking) before the start of the course and is non-refundable unless:
    - there are not enough participants to run the course, in which case you will be notified at least four weeks beforehand and all monies paid to Images from the Edge, refunded (minus any banking charges). Images from the Edge’s liability ends at repayment of your deposit and the balance. It is therefore recommended that you book flights and rail journeys no sooner than three and a half weeks before you intend to travel to the course.
    - Images from the Edge is required to cancel the course due to unforeseen circumstances. Should this happen, Images from the Edge’s liability ends at repayment of your deposit and the balance, if it has been paid. This may be less than 4 weeks before the workshop is due to run.
If an account has not been settled by six weeks before the workshop is due to run, your place will be lost and deposit forfeited.
Note: a £35.20 administration fee will be charged for any bounced cheques.
  3. Food
Clients must notify Images from the Edge in advance of any special dietary requirements in order that the accommodation provider can attempt to cater for them.
  4. What we ask of you
Reason. Images from the Edge reserves the right to alter the programme without prior notice in response to weather conditions and other factors beyond its control. When working with wild subjects, no guarantees can be made in respect of their appearance. We remain flexible in order to come up with creative experiences, whatever the circumstances.
Responsibility. Outdoor photography inevitably entails some degree of risk and while Images from the Edge will not knowingly expose clients to danger, each is expected to exercise common sense and personal responsibility as Images from the Edge cannot be held liable. We recommend that you and your equipment are adequately insured against loss injury and damage.
Fitness (for field workshops). A moderate level of physical fitness is required during outdoor workshops and Images from the Edge cannot be held liable for any physical injury resulting from exertion.
Complaints. Any complaints must be made at the time of the workshop directly to the workshop leader so that they can be dealt with and cannot be addressed retrospectively.
  5. Transportation
Clients are responsible for their own transportation (and its cost) to, during and after the course. Any lifts given by Niall Benvie or his assistants must not be regarded as part of the workshop and imply no liability on the part of Images from the Edge.
  6. Please note too that
Images from the Edge does not provide equipment or software for participants and recommends that digital photographers bring their own laptop computers. It cannot be held liable for loss of or damage to clients’ equipment during the course of the workshop, in the field or indoors.
  7. And a word of caution
Notification of changes in plan, by either the client or Images from the Edge must be made in writing rather than by email on account of the over-efficiency of some spam filters. We recommend that should you have to cancel, you send the letter by recorded delivery.
  8. And finally, as a courtesy
Contact details of clients will be held on a computer but Images from the Edge will not pass these details on to third parties other than those involved directly in the organisation of the workshop. Should you wish to have your details deleted after, please notify Images from the Edge.
